St. Paul's Parish Announcements

  • St. Luke`s Parish 280th Anniversary

    This is an advance “heads-up” notice to let you know that we will have only one service on Sunday, October 19th at 9:00 a.m.   St. Luke’s Parish in Church Hill will be celebrating their 280th anniversary at 11 a.m. on that morning.  Since their parish was originally a part of St. Paul’s, Fr. Jubinski been asked to co-officiate at this service and to invite all the members of St. Paul’s to participate.  The service will be according to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call.

  • Blessing of the BackPacks

    Father Chris will bless the children’s backpacks on Sunday, August 24th . Please bring your backpack to church with you on the 24th of August.

  • Sunday School Corner

    Greetings from Sunday School. There is Godly Play training at Christ Church Kent Island on Sat August 2nd, $20.00 per person. If you are interested in teaching in the pre-k through third grade classrooms this would be a great opportunity for you to get certified! For more information on this workshop contact Shelby Morrison at shelby@dioceseofeaston.org. If you have any questions about the Godly Play curriculum you can contact Kim Hazuda (410) 758-4045.

    Sunday School will begin on Sunday 9/7 during the 9:00am service! (The 10:30 am services will resume on 9/28).
    Registration forms will be available beginning in August at the back of the church. Please update any changes in home address, email, etc. and turn into the church office or email the info to Michele (our parish administrator) at st_paul’s_parish@verizon.net. If you are new to St. Paul’s please register as well.

    The J2A training will be on Sat. August 23rd, 9:30 - 4:30 here at the church. Anyone interested in working with 6th- 12 grade youth are encouraged to attend and become familiar with this curriculum. Bring a bag lunch. Any questions call Kim Hazuda. Please RSVP to Kim if you plan on attending (410) 758-4045.

    The August dates for the Wednesday evening Fellowship are August 6 and August 20. August 6th will be an ‘Island Party’ at the church at 6:30pm. Wear your hula skirts and lai’s. There will be games for all to partake in, adults too! It will be potluck, so please bring an entree or side dish to share.

    The 20th will be kayaking and a cook-out at the Duffey’s cottage on the Corsica River. More details to follow on that too…….

  • Choir and Bell Choir on Summer Break

    The Choir and Bell Choir will take a summer break from practices. They will resume practice on September 4th. The Bell Choir will practice at 6:15pm and the Choir will practice at 7:30pm.

  • Traveling??

    Visit www.parishfinder.org to find an Episcopal Church where you are traveling. Please let us know where you are traveling this summer. We would like to make a bulletin board display to show where St. Paul’s parishioners have traveled. Please pick up a bulletin from other churches you visit to share with the parish. Please see the table in the hallway, near the stairs to Donaldson Hall, for bulletins from other churches.

  • Food Donations

    A container has been placed in the back of the church for donations of nonperishable food items. Forty-five items were donated this week. We would like to thank Janet Hughes for leading this very important ministry. We appreciate her transporting all the donations to the food bank.

  • Lambeth Conference Information

    Please find links posted on the diocesan website for daily coverage of the Lambeth Conference.

    Bishop Shand has re-scheduled his report to the diocese about the Lambeth Conference, originally set for one meeting on August 13 at Trinity Cathedral.

    The NEW dates and locations are:
    Tuesday, August 19 at St. Luke’s, Church Hill, 7:00 p.m.
    Wednesday, August 20 at St. Paul’s, Vienna, 7:00 p.m.
    These meetings will probably run about an hour and a half, depending how much discussion there is, and will allow him a chance to share his impressions, and others a chance to ask questions.

  • Favorite Hymns

    Please let Father Chris know what your favorite hymns are. Forms and “suggestion box” are on the back table in the church.

  • Wednesday Night Family Adventure

    August 20th will be kayaking and a cook-out at the Duffey’s cottage on the Corsica River. The fun will begin at 5:30pm.  The Duffeys will provide hot dogs and hamburgers please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Please remember to bring lawn chairs, life preservers, and kayak if you have them.

  • Evening Under the Stars

    Please mark your calendars for St. Paul’s Evening Under the Stars a Live and Silent Auction to benefit the St. Paul’s Historic Restoration and Expansion on Saturday, September 6!

    Jazz Ensemble

  • Building Plans

    The building plans for St. Paul’s have been posted in the hallway by the Vestry Room for two weeks. There are also small copies of the building plans in the back of the church for parishioners who are interested. We welcome everyone’s input. If you have any input please speak to Father Chris or a member of the Building Assessment Committee; Arline Mayer, Stoney Duffey, Kathy Draper, Janet Doehler, Henry Hilleary, or Hugh Whitaker by March 15th. We would like to move towards finalizing the plans.

  • Parish Workday

    The parish workday is normally scheduled for the third Saturday of every month, but with the upcoming Bishop’s Visitation our next work day will be on April 12th from 9 until 12:00. Please plan on helping with the workday. The more volunteers we have the less work everyone has to do.

  • Historic Sites Consortium

    St. Paul’s will participate in the first Historic Sites Consortium tour of 2008 on Saturday, May 3 from 10am to 2pm. The Bell Choir will perform and docents will greet guests. The more parishioners who participate as guides, the broader the circle of our history spreads throughout the community and our parish.

    Docents are provided with a brief history of St. Paul’s and are scheduled for a two hour period in the church. Please call church office, 410-758-1553 or Janet Doehler 410-758-0306 if you are interested in a new adventure of outreach

  • Pastoral Care

    Sue Whaley has generously offered to chair the Pastoral Care Committee. If you are interested in joining Pastoral Care and have not been contacted yet please call Sue at 410-758-3498.

  • Altar Guild

    The Altar Guild is always looking for new members. We also need a new member to fill a vacant position to arrange the flowers. You would be on a team and asked to arrange the flowers for the altar once every 6 weeks or so. You would be off during lent and advent because there are no flowers on the altar. Please call Hallie Rugg at 410-758-1395 or email her at hallie21617@yahoo.com if you are interested in the memorial dedication or interested in joining the Altar Guild.

  • Prayer Shawl Ministry

    The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet on Tuesday, August 19th at 7:00pm at Susan Whitaker’s house. Please call Susan for more information.

  • The St. Paul`s Giving Tree

    Please check the Giving Tree in the back of the church for the new leaves. We have added leaves for folding chairs for Donaldson Hall. We have a lot of upcoming events and we would like to have new chairs to go with the new tables. The folding chairs are $36.00 each. We are getting ready to order the chairs. If you are interested in donating a chair please contact Janet ASAP. Please fill out a leaf and put it in the envelope. If you have any questions please contact Janet Doehler at 410-758-0306.

  • Newsletter Folding

    We fold newsletters on the fourth Tuesday of every month beginning at 10:00am. If you are free please stop by for some great conversation and newsletter folding.

  • Rector`s Discretionary Fund

    On the fourth Sunday of each month, the loose offering in the offering plate is designated for the Rector`s Discretionary Fund. This fund enables us to help our less fortunate brothers and sister in the Centreville Community - help with electric, gas or oil bills, with shelter needs, or with groceries. You are also welcome to write a check if you want. Make checks payable to St. Paul`s Discretionary Fund and give them to Father Chris or drop them off at the parish office. Thank you for your generosity in ministering to our brothers and sisters in the name of Jesus.

  • Parish Office Hours

    The parish office hours are Tuesday through Friday 9:30 until 2:30pm.

  • Coffee Hour Sign up

    Please sign up to volunteer for coffee hour. There is a sign up sheet in the back of the church.

  • Welcoming Spirit Bread Ministry

    If you are able or interested in baking bread for this ministry or have questions about what is required, please contact Julia Williams at 410-758-2734 or julgregw@verizon.net . I only have a small list of volunteers and would love to expand to enable us to have a schedule planned ahead.

  • Ushers Needed!!!

    We are in need of Ushers, everyone is welcome to volunteer. You will serve once every 8 weeks. You will receive your schedule in advance so if you are busy on the day you are scheduled you will have plenty of time to find a replacement.   • St. Paul`s Communion Norms

    All are welcome at the Lord`s table. At communion we come forward at the direction of the ushers and line up from right to left at the altar. You may stand or kneel (whichever you prefer). After the entire row has received communion, the lay chalicist will say “amen”. You may exit out side door to come back into the church nave and return to your seat.
